On August 1st, 102 terracotta warriors and lanterns lighted the capital (Photos)

Terracotta lights light up the capital

On August 1st, in the CBD, which is full of fashion, the World Trade Center Olympic Culture Square will be equipped with 102 magnificent terracotta lights. It is not from the Qin Dynasty's clay sculptures, they are full of dazzling appearance; not wearing armor is full of murderousness, they carry the old and help the young, full of family joy. Under the wind of the evening, the lights of the city reveal the depths of history, and they are also dedicated to the Olympic carnival. From August 1st to 24th, they will tell people about the long history of Chinese culture in a special way.

Terracotta Warriors and Horses are known as one of the eight wonders of the world. Like the Great Wall and the Grand Canal, it represents the pinnacle of China's long history of culture and human civilization. The terracotta warriors and horses, which were transformed into lights, were designed by the Chaoyang District Cultural Center. More than 30 workers were hand-made by Wang Yanmin, a Beijing-based lantern color professional.

These lights are divided into children's 俑 (1.5 meters high), women's 俑 (1.7 meters high), pregnant 俑, 托 俑, general 俑, soldiers 俑 (1.9 meters high), horse 俑 (2 meters long, 1.8 meters high), etc. 8 forms, a total of 102. When they are lit, they will appear in six colors of red, yellow, blue, green, white, and purple. They are called beautiful terracotta lamps. During the Beijing Olympics, they will witness this global event and leave a memorable Olympic cultural heritage for Beijing.

Breakthrough from traditional freehand to modern realism in the lighting workshop of Dongxu New Village in Shuangqiao, Chaoyang District, there is still a lamp that failed the first trial. Looking at the sleek, disproportionate lamp sculpt, Wang Yanmin smiled and recalled it. At the beginning, it was completely made according to the method of making ordinary lanterns. At that time, it was quite exciting. When I moved to the cultural center, the curator frowned. It is. Just look at this hand, what is your hand, isn't this a glove? There is no chest or waist, like a bread.

The production of terracotta warriors and lanterns is far more difficult than imagined. In the words of Xia Nan, a landscape architect of the Olympic Cultural Square in Chaoyang District, we must use the language of the Terracotta Warriors. This means that disruptive creation must take place. If the traditional lamp color production process is likened to the freehand brushwork in the Chinese painting technique, then the production of the terracotta warriors and lanterns is the realistic method in Western painting.

Traditional art lights can only outline the outline of the object. The light color skeleton is very random. Most of them are bent by the technicians. There is no strict ratio. The terracotta warriors and lanterns are almost one to one to copy the original pottery, only to make the structure of the lamp frame conform to the muscles, bones and other structures of the terracotta warriors and horses, so that the overall shape looks like.
