Can you see these 23 disruptive technologies?

The World Economic Forum's Global Agenda Council's "The Future of Software and Society" panel conducted a survey of 800 company executives to determine the expectations of these business leaders for 21 disruptive technologies. The survey formed the report “Deep Transformation: Technical Tapping Point and Social Impact”, which was published in September 2015. The following is an excerpt of 21 technological changes in this survey, with an additional two.

Can you see these 23 disruptive technologies?

Implantable technology

Tipping point: the first implantable phone will be commercialized

Outlook 2025: 82% of respondents believe that the tipping point will appear before this

People are increasingly relying on electronic devices, and these devices are more closely linked to the human body. The device is no longer just wearable, it can also be implanted in the body to perform functions such as communication, positioning, behavior monitoring and health management. The invention of pacemakers and cochlear implants is only the beginning, and more and more healthy devices will emerge. These devices will be able to sense disease parameters, alert users to take action, send data to the monitoring center, and may even automatically deliver drugs for treatment.

Smart tattoos and other unique chips will help with identification and positioning. With implantable devices, the idea of verbally speaking can be done with "embedded" smartphones, and some hidden ideas and emotions are expected to be conveyed by reading brain waves and other signals.

2. Digital identity

Tipping point: 80% of people have digital identity online

Outlook 2025: 84% of respondents believe that the tipping point will appear before this

The number of Internet users around the world has grown rapidly over the past 20 years.

Ten years ago, entering the digital age only meant having a mobile phone number, an email address, and perhaps a personal homepage of Myspace. The existence of people in the digital world now includes digital interactions and their legacy on various online platforms and media. Many people have more than one digital identity, such as facebook, Twitter, linkedin, Tumblr, and instagram, and usually more than that.

In a world of increasing interconnectedness, virtual life on the Internet is gradually becoming inseparable from real life. In the future, building and maintaining your own online image will be as common as we are in dressing, speaking and acting in real life. In the online world, people can rely on their avatars on the web to search and share information, freely express their opinions, swear with others, and develop and maintain relationships with others anywhere in the world.

3. Vision becomes a new interactive interface

Tipping point: 10% of reading glasses can connect to the Internet

Outlook 2025: 86% of respondents believe that the tipping point will appear before this

Glasses, head-mounted and eye tracking devices are becoming smarter, and Google Glass is only the first successful attempt. In the future, human eyes and vision will also become new media for connecting the Internet and digital devices.

By visually connecting directly to various applications and data in the Internet, the individual's sensory experience is reinforced and more immersive. With the rise of eye tracking technology, smart devices can input information to the visual interface and interact with it through the eyeball to feedback the information.

By providing instruction, information visualization and interaction, vision can be an instant, direct interactive interface that changes people's learning, navigation, guidance and feedback, thus helping people to more fully interact with the world.

4. Wearable device networking

Tipping point: 10% of people wear clothes that can be connected to the Internet

Outlook 2025: 91% of respondents believe that the tipping point will appear before this

Technology has become more personal. Early computers needed a few large rooms to be placed, and later they could be placed on the table, but now they can be placed on the knees. The current state of the art is evident from the smartphones in our pockets, and future technologies will be embedded directly into clothing and accessories.

In 2015, Apple's smart watch apple watch not only can be connected to the Internet, but also has many functions of the smartphone. More and more clothing and wearable devices will have embedded chips that allow the wearer to use the item to connect to the Internet.

5. Pervasive computing

Tipping point: 90% of people can access the Internet frequently

Outlook 2025: 79% of respondents believe that the tipping point will appear before this

Digital services are ubiquitous, and people can get the services they need, anytime, anywhere, whether through a networked computer or with 3G (third-generation mobile communication technology), 4G (fourth generation mobile communication technology) or cloud services. The smartphone can be implemented.

Currently, 43% of the world's people can connect to the Internet. In 2014 alone, 1.2 billion smartphones were sold. In 2015, sales of tablet PCs are expected to exceed that of personal computers, and total sales of smartphones will reach six times that of computers. The Internet has grown faster than all other media channels. It is estimated that in a few years, 3/4 of the world's people can use the Internet frequently.

In the future, the frequent use of the Internet and information services will no longer be a welfare for developed countries, but will become a basic right like drinking clean drinking water. Because wireless technology requires less infrastructure than many other public services (such as electricity, roads, and water), its popularity is likely to be much faster than the latter. Therefore, anyone in any country will be able to interact and interact with people on any corner of the globe. The generation and dissemination of information is more convenient than ever.

6. Portable supercomputer

Tipping point: smartphone usage reaches 90%

Outlook 2025: 81% of respondents believe that the tipping point will appear before this

As early as 2012, Google publicly stated at its "Internal Search" conference that "the amount of computing required to respond to a Google search request is almost the same as the entire Apollo 84 program (including ground and air). Just as much." More importantly, modern smartphones and tablets have more computing power than many "megacomputers" that used to occupy an entire room.

It is estimated that by 2019, the number of global smartphone users will reach 3.5 billion, which is equivalent to 59% of smartphone penetration, which is more than 50% in 2017, compared with 28% in 2013.

It is a general trend to gradually adopt high-speed computing devices that allow people to handle complex tasks. The most likely scenario is that the number of devices used by each individual increases dramatically, and these devices not only have new features, but they also handle special tasks.

7. Universal unlimited storage

Tipping point: 90% of people have unlimited storage space (or supported by ads)

Outlook 2025: 91% of respondents believe that the tipping point will appear before this

In the past few years, as more and more companies provide customers with nearly free storage space as part of the bonus service, personal storage capacity has been greatly improved. Users create more and more content without having to think about cleaning up content to make room. Commodification of storage space is a trend, one of the reasons is that storage prices are rapidly declining.

The trend in the world is to fully commercialize storage space, allowing users to enjoy unlimited storage space for free. The best way for companies to monetize may be through advertising or telemetry.
