What is a cam controller

A cam controller is an electrical device designed to regulate and manage the operational state of a circuit by using the motion of a cam. It is commonly employed in electric drive control systems to adjust resistance in the motor’s circuit or its excitation winding, allowing for control over functions such as starting, stopping, reversing, speed adjustment, and braking of the motor.

The operation of a cam controller relies on manually rotating a handle, which turns a shaft equipped with multiple cams. As the cam rotates, its varying radius pushes against contact points, causing them to open or close. By arranging different cam profiles on the same shaft, the controller can sequentially activate or deactivate several sets of contacts according to a pre-set sequence. This mechanism ensures precise and controlled operation of the motor in various industrial applications, making it a reliable component in automation and machinery systems.
