TE Connectivity (TE) has recently launched a new 0.4 mm fine-pitch, 0.98 mm board-to-board connector designed to meet the growing demand for compact and efficient electronic systems. This innovative solution enhances the connectivity of smaller devices, helping manufacturers reduce production costs and improve assembly efficiency.
As consumer electronics continue to trend toward sleeker, more stylish designs, the challenges of board-to-board connectivity have become more complex. Katsuya Unesa, product manager for internal interconnect solutions at TE Consumer Electronics, explained: “There is an increasing need for board-to-board connectors that provide strong structural support while minimizing self-calibration distances. At the same time, they must ensure cost-effectiveness and quick availability. TE’s latest board-to-board connector addresses these demands and gives manufacturers greater flexibility in their design processes.â€

One of the standout features of this new connector is its ability to offer ample access space without requiring nozzle changes, which helps lower labor costs on the production line. The design also simplifies the assembly process by reducing the self-calibration distance to 0.3 mm, using a two-contact configuration and anti-seepage technology.
The 0.4 mm pitch design has already gained popularity among users, and TE’s new version makes it even easier to connect. It provides a clear audible click when fully engaged, giving users a tactile confirmation of proper connection. Additionally, there is plenty of space for automated pick-and-place operations. The signal terminals are coated with a nickel isolation layer, preventing soldering issues between the male and female contacts. The crimped terminal surfaces are specially shaped to ensure reliable current transmission, making this connector a top choice for high-performance applications.
