It is true that a variety of display technologies coexist, but the mainstream technology is still TFT-LCD. The technology sharing and investment sharing of OLED and TFT-LCD exceeds 60%, so 70% of TFT-LCD investment can be used for OLED. The core difference between OLED and TFT-LCD is the technical difference, but TFT technology is the foundation, and many of the principles are the same. The advantages of OLED are thinner, no backlight, theoretically lower cost and better color. However, OLEDs are anaerobic and fail when exposed to oxygen, so they are carried out in a vacuum environment during the manufacturing process.
Another disadvantage of OLEDs is their relatively short lifetime. Now this problem has not been completely solved. But in the future, it is a direction of new display technology. BOE will strive to be the strongest in the OLED field and reach the international advanced level. After the completion of the 5th generation line, we did not immediately launch the 6th generation line, but invested in the 4.5 generation line, because it considered OLED.
Both TFT and OLED are extended on the same technology. BOE's internal technology research and development also coexists with various display technologies. We have a dedicated team to develop laser displays, but at the moment we feel that we have not yet launched this product, because the product is large and can only be used in the public display field. OLED is currently a display technology for small-sized products, and it is unlikely to become mainstream in the next 10 years. Moreover, there is no substitute problem for OLED and TFT, because the two are not subversive technical alternatives, but only product updates, that is, the continuous advancement of the original technology, so that new products are continuously introduced. From a global perspective, new display technologies and new applications are mostly from the same companies. For example, the best OLED products are Samsung and LG in Korea. Various display technologies do coexist, but we are not worried because we are ready.
