HTC Wang Congqing: There is no competitive relationship with Oculus and PSVR

Wang Congqing, president of HTC Vive China, shared his views on Twitter after the recent Vive Developer Conference in Hangzhou, saying that current VR helmets are not competitive.

Wang Congqing compares the current PSVR, HTC Vive and Oculus Rift platforms with electric vehicles. He said that Vive is similar to Tesla's Model X, "a full-featured, multi-purpose"; and Oculus Rift is similar to Chevrolet, compact design, "fit for home."

As for the PSVR, he thinks it is the "Toyota Prius," which has a modern design and is suitable for young consumers. Compared with the products of the same period, "the price is cheaper."

Wang Congqing used a similar logic to compare the mobile VR. In his eyes, Google Daydream is similar to an electric motorcycle. It has many uses and “stylish and sexy”; and Gear VR is a “electric scooter” with limited functions and is easy to use; as for Cardboard. It is an "electric scooter", which is cheap, less irritating, and "more like a toy."

Finally, Wang Congqing concluded: “The key point I want to express is that these vehicles are not competing, but serve different areas.”

Having said that, with the Oculus Touch controller coming to market in December, Oculus will have controllers and space-like VR experiences similar to HTC Vive; Gear VR also has a lot of similarities with Daydream. There must be a fight between these couples.
