Samsung was accused of stealing patented FinFET technology

[IT168 News] With the mass production of Samsung and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. Ltd.'s 10nm process, it has been determined that the flagship chip process will formally enter the 10nm stage next year. Samsung's 10nm process will be its own Exynos processor and Qualcomm Xiaolong 835 OEM. However, in the recent exposure of Korean media, Samsung's 10nm FinFET process was suspected of stealing patents from the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), which plans to file a lawsuit against Samsung. The South Korean Academy of Science and Technology insists that they developed the 10nm FinFET process and believe that Qualcomm and TSMC are also infringing their patents for FinFET technology. At present, Samsung has not stated its position on the matter.

According to the Korea Institute of Science and Technology, Samsung once invited FinFET technology developer Lee Jong-ho, a professor at Seoul National University, to show the company engineers the principles of FinFET technology and to take this opportunity to steal the technology, and Lee Jong-ho is One of KAIST's partners. The Korea Science and Technology Institute insists that Samsung stole the invention of Lee Jong-ho without spending money, cutting development time and costs. Later, Samsung did not use Li Zhonghao's invention without obtaining authorization or paying appropriate compensation.

In addition, the Korea Science and Technology Institute also revealed that Qualcomm and TSMC are also suspected of infringement of their patents. As a semiconductor giant, Intel has realized that they are the real developers of FinFET technology and have obtained corresponding technical authorization.

As early as a few years ago, Samsung had hired TSMC executives and disputed TSMC's patent technology. Faced with a patent prosecution from the Korean Institute of Science and Technology today, Samsung has not expressed its position on the matter. I hope that the patent storm will not affect the production of the 10nm processor.
