Pe plastic density test method introduction - Database & Sql Blog Articles

The density of PE colloidal particles is closely related to their size and volume, as well as the physical properties of the final product. Therefore, accurately measuring the density of PE raw materials is crucial. This process can be carried out according to standards such as ASTM D792-00 in the U.S. and GB/T 1033 domestically. There are several methods for determining the density of PE colloidal particles, including the pycnometer method, floating sedimentation method, density meter method, density gradient column method, and the impregnation method. Among these, the first four are often considered cumbersome, error-prone, and not very scientific, and have been gradually phased out. The impregnation method, however, has evolved through innovation and improvement, combining a precision balance, an advanced volumetric measuring device, modern software technology, and Archimedes’ principle. Using water as a medium, it directly displays the density and volume with simple steps that are easy to learn and highly durable. As a result, this method has become the mainstream in the plastics industry. Below is a list of PE colloidal particles or similar products measured using the impregnation method: **Instrument Requirements:** 1. Weighing accuracy must be at least 0.005g. 2. The volume measuring container should be transparent to allow clear observation of bubbles on the sample surface. 3. The measuring frame must be designed for ease of operation and visibility of the sample in water. 4. The sink size should ensure that the water level does not rise more than 2.5mm when the sample is submerged; excessive rise increases measurement error. 5. The hanging bar’s wire diameter should not exceed 0.40mm; thicker wires lead to larger errors. 6. For particle-based products, a dedicated particle measurement device is required. **Measurement Steps:** 1. **Preparation:** Clean the tennis ball with alcohol, place it in the water column, then position the glass on the measuring table. Press the [ZERO] key to reset to zero. 2. **Step 1:** With the system at zero, add approximately 7g of PE colloidal particles into the glass. When the stable indicator appears, press [ENTER] to record the weight in air. 3. **Step 2:** Carefully remove the tennis ball from the water, pour the PE particles into it, ensuring none are lost or added. Place the tennis ball in alcohol, shake it repeatedly to remove any trapped air bubbles. Then return the tennis ball to the center of the water column and put the glass back in place. Observe and remove any bubbles on the surface. Once stable, press [ENTER] to display the density value. 4. **Reset:** Pour out the PE colloid, return the tennis ball and glass to their original positions, and press [ENTER] to return to the test mode. This method ensures accurate, reliable, and efficient density measurement, making it ideal for industrial applications where precision is essential.
