TDK launches embedded SD/SSD and M.2 2280 type SSD products

On May 8th, TDK Corporation (President: Ishiguro Nao) will release the following three products in order from May 2018.

・embedded SD ESRD4 series

・embedded SSD ESS1B series

・M.2 SSD Type 2280-D5-BM SNS1B Series

With the development of IoT, the demand for micro-memory storing edge data has increased rapidly. In particular, eMMC*1, which can be surface-encapsulated, was once considered to have great advantages, but with the increase in capacity of smartphones, it has gradually shifted from eMMC to UFS*2.

On the other hand, the I-IoT*3, which is mainly based on small capacity, requires a highly reliable and optimal storage area.

TDK embedded SD The ESRD4 series is an SD card that can be packaged in a board with high-durability SLC/pSLC NAND flash memory. This series of products is available in a variety of capacities from 1GB to 32GB, and is also the most suitable device for storing small-volume systems such as Linux and RTOS.

On the other hand, the TDK embedded SSD ESS1B series is an SSD device that supports SATA 6Gbps. This product is equipped with a pSLC NAND flash memory and can be built into a 32GB to 64GB memory in a BGA package conforming to the JEDEC MO-276 standard. This is an onboard SSD that is best suited for storing large-capacity OS such as Windows 10 IoT.

In addition, for the use of larger capacity memory, the 2280 type has been added to the M.2 SSD SNS1B series. The shape of the existing 2242 is the same, and the NAND type flash memory can be selected from the SLC/pSLC/MLC.

All three products are equipped with the TDK GBDriver series, a NAND-type flash controller that is highly regarded for industrial use. Not only can it ensure the reliability and durability of the data, but it also excels in data protection when the power is turned off. It can also be used safely on IoT devices that require frequent power cuts due to power saving requirements.
