Socionext, a pioneer in System-on-Chip (SoC) based imaging solutions, recently unveiled a cutting-edge 360° panoramic camera design featuring their renowned Milbeaut® family of Image Signal Processors (ISP). Their latest offering aims to provide top-tier image quality alongside exceptional low-power performance, catering to both semi-professional users and general consumers.
This announcement includes two distinct products aimed at meeting the rising demand for 360° camera applications. The semi-professional version leverages Socionext's SC2000 high-performance processor, enabling real-time 4K image stitching. Meanwhile, the consumer-focused model has been co-developed with Cypress Semiconductor and ImmerVision, utilizing the MBG967 IoT processor family. Each solution comes equipped with comprehensive board design references and software development kits, allowing device manufacturers to effortlessly create custom, high-performance dome cameras tailored to specific applications.
The MBG967 is specifically crafted for general consumers seeking real-time 360° image capture, particularly for virtual reality video streaming. In collaboration with Cypress and ImmerVision, Socionext introduced a camera accessory capable of connecting to smartphones and other mobile devices. The EZ-USB® CX3 bridge chip, which supports both USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 standards while adhering to the USB video class (UVC), ensures seamless high-resolution image transmission. Additionally, ImmerVision’s innovative Panomorph optical technology and software enable high-quality 360° image capture even on compact cameras. Combining these advanced technologies, the MBG967 integrates a Milbeaut IoT processor to handle input from two cameras simultaneously. The initial product features two 16-megapixel cameras mounted on an 8cm x 8cm board. Socionext plans to further diversify its product lineup to accommodate various resolution and frame rate requirements.

On the other hand, the SC2000 is tailored for professional-grade cameras requiring rapid processing of extensive image data. Utilizing Socionext’s proprietary image processing algorithms, this product consumes under 2W in typical operating conditions. Users can connect up to four cameras to the SC2000, which supports real-time video stitching with an output resolution of 4K/30fps. The resulting 360° dome cameras powered by the SC2000 are ideal for high-end sports cameras and drones. They also deliver perfect spherical images suitable for video conferencing systems, theaters, and sporting events.
