Netease Technology News, August 28th. Today, according to media reports from Qubit, a so-called "secret base" of Xinjiang has been uncovered in Shekou, Shenzhen. Allegedly, DJI is conducting tests on unmanned vehicles here, with real vehicle photos being leaked. The report claims that the tested unmanned vehicle was a Ford Edge SUV. Externally, this drone appeared to have only a camera and no visible LiDAR or other obvious radar sensors. It seemed to resemble an AIMotive-like autonomous driving program.
In response to these claims, Netease Technology reached out to DJI officials regarding the development of unmanned vehicles. DJI replied, stating, "No, we have addressed this issue multiple times. These are merely speculations made by online authors." Previously, during Netease's coverage of the RoboMaster Mech Masters tournament hosted by DJI, several media outlets inquired about plans to develop cars. At that time, DJI also denied such intentions.
However, these denials have not quelled media speculation. Recently, DJI released job listings for automotive evaluation editors. Back in August 2015, DJI hired Tesla Autopilot expert Darren Liccardo, who became the Senior Director of Global Engineering and Vice President of DJI’s Silicon Valley R&D Center. This has fueled rumors suggesting DJI might become the Tesla of China. (By Bai Xin)

As a technology enthusiast following DJI’s progress, I find it intriguing how persistent these rumors are despite DJI's consistent disclaimers. It’s clear that DJI’s technological expertise and past hires have sparked significant interest in its potential ventures into the automotive sector. However, without concrete evidence, it remains just speculation. It will be interesting to see if DJI takes this path in the future, especially given their strong presence in the drone market.
