On August 29th, the highly anticipated China Intelligent Terminal Technology Conference (3rd edition) and China Intelligent Hardware Developers Conference (2nd edition) kicked off grandly at the Nikko Hotel in Beijing's New Century Plaza. This event is not just another tech conference but serves as the only comprehensive innovation platform within China’s intelligent terminal industry chain.
The conference centered around the theme of "AI Applications and Terminal Innovations in the Era of Everything Connected," bringing together top government officials, renowned academicians, and industry leaders. Over 500 participants from enterprises, developers, makers, investment firms, government bodies, industrial parks, and associations across the upstream and downstream sectors joined the gathering.
Intelligent terminals, which include smart hardware, are playing an increasingly vital role in today’s interconnected world. With rapid advancements in network technologies and widespread application needs, there is a pressing demand for continuous innovation in intelligent terminals. Whether it’s hardware design, software evolution, or platform iterations, the intelligent terminal sector is thriving in one of its most dynamic ecosystems. Diverse innovations and ideas are converging, signaling an impending transformation in the industry.
Shi Shijing, Director of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology’s Department of Electronics, delivered an opening speech. Academician Ni Guangnan presented a keynote address, offering profound insights into current policies affecting the intelligent terminal industry, analyzing market structures, and forecasting future technological trends.
Leading companies like Qualcomm, Intel, Alibaba, 360 Mobile, Asus, Keda Xunfei, Microsoft, OFO, China Telecom Tianyi Terminal, and the China Information and Communication Research Institute were represented. Key figures such as Qualcomm’s Vice President Shen Jin, 360 Mobile’s President Li Kaixin, ASUS Computer’s Mobile Communications Business Head Wang Yong, and OFO’s Vice President Xiang Jigui shared their perspectives on mobile innovation, terminal security, retail challenges, and the sharing economy, among other critical topics.
In addition, the conference featured participation from investment institutions and capital representatives within the smart hardware and mobile internet spaces. These experts analyzed the latest developments and investment opportunities in cutting-edge technologies.
The conference aimed to create a communication bridge between industries and developers, offering insights into the latest advancements in smart terminals and sharing best practices in mobile app development. It encouraged original and innovative designs in Chinese intelligent terminals and mobile internet applications, fostering collaboration among developers along the supply chain. By promoting mass entrepreneurship and innovation, the conference sought to cultivate a healthy industrial ecosystem, driving the innovative growth of China’s smart terminal and mobile internet sectors.
The event was divided into three key sections: the main forum, the AI Technology and Terminal Innovation Forum, and the IoT Applications and Intelligent Hardware Development Forum. Over 30 keynote speeches were delivered, covering foundational architectural development, chip design, operating system advancements, biometric technologies, and mobile communication protocols, among other terminal-related hot topics.
It’s worth noting that the 2017 China Smart Terminal Technology Conference (3rd edition) and China Intelligent Hardware Developers Conference (2nd edition) is part of the 5th China Mobile Design and Application Innovation Competition series. The conference was guided by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and co-sponsored by the China Electronics Information Industry Development Research Institute, the Guangdong Provincial Economic and Information Commission, and the Huizhou Municipal People’s Government. The organizing committee and Communications Industry Newspaper (Web) hosted the event, with support from China Telecom, China Mobile, China Unicom, and major industry associations.
This year’s competition received submissions across four categories: mobile phone product design, terminal solutions, intelligent hardware innovation, and mobile app development. Based on five core criteria—innovation, humanity, professionalism, forward-thinking, and commercial viability—the organizing committee awarded the prestigious Swan Award and individual accolades. To date, over 200 entries have been submitted, including more than 40 mobile phones, 40 terminal solutions, 50 smart hardware devices, and 70 mobile apps.
As the conference wrapped up, attendees left inspired by the future possibilities of intelligent terminals and the transformative power of AI applications. It was a testament to China’s growing influence and leadership in the global tech landscape.
