This week, NEC and Changgang University of Science and Technology announced that they have jointly developed a new technology that uses the sound in the ear canal to identify users.
According to NEC, the device being developed mainly utilizes the fact that each of us has a natural ear canal without the same characteristics. So they added a microphone to the traditional in-ear headphones and analyzed the sound in the ear canal. Recognizing the official identity of the user, the company said that the recognition time is only 1 second and the accuracy is as high as 99%.
NEC said: "Because this new technology does not require the scanning of the relevant features of the body parts, it is possible to carry out continuous identity authentication in a very natural way." They expect to implement the technology for commercial purposes in 2018.
The company believes that the most appropriate scenario for using this technology is to ensure the security of the underlying core facilities, and at the same time continuously verify whether the user has authorization in the high-level authorized calls.
