The Combo PON mainly performs independent transmission and reception of GPON and 10G GPON optical signals in a single optical device, and is output from the same optical port after the two channels are combined. In the evolution of GPON to 10G GPON, the Combo PON architecture using optical modules has proven to be an extremely effective solution. This solution is compatible with the existing GPON network services and provides high-bandwidth services on demand, avoiding the changes of the existing network resources and the space occupied by the equipment such as external multiplexing, and achieving fast and smooth upgrade of high-bandwidth services. It has been reported that under the same PON port density, the CPON solution saves more than 60% of the equipment room space than the external multiplex wave speed-up solution, reducing the equipment deployment cost by 24%, and ensuring a low-cost and smooth upgrade of the network.
