The TPS2480/81 is designed to reduce in-application surges to very low levels, protecting loads and FETs from overcurrent or short-circuit events. They control external N-channel MOSFET switches and provide accurate voltage, current, and power monitoring through a I2C interface using a configurable 12-bit A/D converter. Independently adjustable power limits and current limits ensure that the external MOSFET operates within the safe operating area (SOA) of the FET.
The flexible design includes a power good output that can be used for sequencing and load fault indication. An external timer capacitor sets the fault time to protect the system from dangerous shutdowns in the event of a transient event.
