Touch screen controller
New generation smartphones are unlikely to get smaller, but they can be made thinner and smarter with a single-chip, widescreen capacitive touch screen controller. The S-Touch® FingerTIp controller provides true multi-touch functionality with no limit to the number of simultaneous touches supported. FingerTIp also enhances multi-touch actions (such as zooming) and supports stylus operations for a smoother experience.
ST's family of touch sensors includes controllers for resistive touchscreen applications that utilize design and simplicity with a four-wire resistive approach and integrated ADC.
Pressure Sensor
ST's ultra-small silicon pressure sensor is available in an ultra-small, low-profile package that uses innovative MEMS technology to achieve extremely high resolution pressure and height measurements. Designed with ST's VENSENS technology, the device allows pressure sensors to be constructed from monolithic silicon, eliminating wafer-to-wafer bonding and maximizing reliability. Compared to conventional silicon micromachined membranes, the membranes are very small and can be protected from damage by built-in mechanical plugs.
When measuring altitude, noise has a large impact on system accuracy. STMicroelectronics has reduced sensor noise to a minimum. This will detect a height difference of a few centimeters.
ST's pressure sensors are designed to enhance GPS for indoor and outdoor navigation for accurate height measurement, or as a barometer in smartphones, tablets, sports watches, weather stations, and automotive and industrial applications.
Temperature Sensor
ST's temperature sensors include analog and digital temperature sensor ICs. Both types of sensors are suitable for a variety of applications including industrial, consumer, medical and computer.
The analog temperature sensor features low power consumption and good linearity and can operate from -55 to +130 °C. The digital temperature sensor features low power consumption and resolution up to 12 bits and can operate from -55 to +125 °C.
Electronic compass
ST's digital compass integrates a three-axis digital accelerometer and a three-axis digital magnetic sensor in a single LGA package.
ST's compass is designed to accurately detect the direction and intensity of an external magnetic field, and accelerometer measurements for tilt compensation, so that even the tilt of the portable device ensures a very accurate compass heading.
ST's low-noise electronic compass has a resolution of 2 mG and a wide full-scale range, all of which are user-selectable: ±2 ~ ±16g full-scale acceleration and ±1.3 ~ ±8G magnetic field full scale.
The compass series features embedded self-test and intelligent power supply to minimize current consumption.
